Hi Odette!
Pretty funny story! ,although I'm sure it wasn't for the girl who fell off her bike Anyway, for me wearing a scarf over my face would be so stressful that it would most likely counteract any good it might be doing! As for zinc oxide cream, I purchased a bag of it from Somerset Cosmetic Company (http://www.makingcosmetics.com) and I just add some to my favorite moisturizing cream and it doesn't really show when I put it on. I'm not sure about this, but I think that it may be best to mix up only small amounts at a time because I have found that if it sits for a while the zinc oxide turns into small white sandy granules and then you are covered with white dots. And speaking about funny stories, I was recently at a social gathering when someone politely pointed out to me that I had these "white things" on my neck and face. I probably looked contagious

See, this thread was totally worth it. I laughed all the way through.
I do know what you mean about the socks though, I had to take the glasses off today to try to figure out if two socks were a pair, they were both gray, but slightly different shades of grey that I couldn't distinguish with the glasses on, or off, for that matter.
Which reminds me of another MP story. Last night we parked (my mom and me in her car) in the handicapped section in front of a restaurant where we were having my sister's birthday party. (I have the handicapped tag).
We leave the party and I go to the passenger side and I am waiting for her to undo the door (it's raining). I'm saying, "c'mon, open the door!!
And she yells over to me, "What are you doing?"
I had the wrong car. The right model, but a different color (grey v. beige) that I could not discriminate as different from my mom's car.
So, like a dumb you know what, I had to leave the stranger's car and actually go to the car I was brought there in, ha ha.

Thanks for the link, Adrianne. I feel so much more normal and part of the real world without the face mask. I seem to be tolerating it well enough even without the zinc oxide (but I am out in daylight very little).
Plus, today is the first day there is a touch of fall in the air. So, soon enough, I'll be WANTING to wear a ski mask. I just won't wear it when going to the bank.
Goobygirl, your car experience reminds me of one I had several years ago. I'd parked in a multi-story lot during daylight hours and was leaving after dark. I could not find my car. I went to a security officer who drove me around looking for it. He asked the license plate number, which I did not know, then for the make of the car. I told him I thought a bright red car ought to stand out for color alone. Well, he drove me right up to my car. In the lighting, it looked black. I would never have found it by color alone.

I have a funny Walmart story.
Earlier this summer when I could barely walk, my husband and son dragged me to Walmart on a Saturday night (I know - pathetic!). I used one of the electric carts to get around the store. As I turned down an aisle, I saw my husband and son laughing their butts off. When I asked them what was so damn funny, they commented that all the people in Walmart are trying to figure out how the blind lady (with NoIRs) can drive around so well in that cart! When I stopped to think about my appearance, I too got a good chuckle. I think the next time I might take a cane and really give people something to talk about.

Hi Folks.
Not funniest MP experience but quiet amusing.
You know this Th1 disease has really caused me even more trouble now!
Sue just had Police Constable Ellis our local bobby knock on our door. “Ello, ello, ello, Are you still the owner of an X reg, red Astra estate.” Sue says “yes” wondering what she’s going to get booked for and he says “we’re hunting a mystery man reported driving around this area in a similar car in hot sunshine, totally covered up in balaclava, hood and dark glasses! Very suspicious!!”
“You had better come in” Sue says.
He enters the darkened hall way, carefully and alert, ready to ward off a manic attack.
Well no, not really, we did know him slightly and he could see the living room all blacked out and I explained what I was doing with avoiding sunlight etc, so we all had a bit of a laugh about it. Or rather he did sort of, you know what I mean?
You might have twitching curtains in the city but around here even the sheep have binoculars and a good thing too I suppose.
It must have been at the end of last week when I drove over to Hartland to collect my blood test results, ooooooops!
Another baffling police investigation solved eh, Watson!
(Oh yeh and the blood tests did show I had some blood so that’s ok as well I guess).

I only had the one visit from the police, but it was remarkably similar to Mick's description.
These aren't the droids we're looking for. Go about your business, citizen!

Some of you may have already read this in my progress thread , but thought I would post it here too
We were in Walmart a couple of months ago and of course you all know the 'sideways Looks' you get from people, I'm totally in Dark brown jacket, pants, socks, shoes, broad brim hat, and 2% NOirs, skintone leather gloves.....
We were going through check out , and the young cashier had been watching me approach in the line and she with her.head cocked to one side, coyly, said to me "Good evening Ma'am, Are you undercover?!!! we broke out laughing, even smiles in the line behind me. When I laughingly said NO, she said, I wondered, because if you are you are not exactly incognito!

This also happened to another one of our members, and I never have a funny or a witty line to say back in moments like that, and so I have prepared myself with the following response should it ever happen to me:
"Why, Yes, I believe I'm TOTALLY covered."

I managed to embarrass myself rather successfully at a friends house warming the other day within about a minute of walking into the room.
It had been my first social outing in months and I was very excited and wearing my 2% noirs. I was just telling the host how I have night vision and can almost see in the dark when I walked into the kitchen which was dimmed and met a group of my old uni friends who were standing around talking.
My eyes were still adjusting to the light levels and I could recognize everyone except one girl so I said a general hello and introduced myself to her. Everyone laughed.
I've known her for 10 years. We were on the same debating team together for a whole competition. She had just straightened her hair and looked thinner and was backlit. So we all had a good laugh.
Ahhh at least I amuse others...
