This thread is for articles that mention research where Trevor Marshall's model could possibly help explain the outcome that researchers are seeing but the researchers suspect something else.  (Not saying that they are entirely wrong in their suppositions or that TM is entirely right...just seeing the link.)

Not a D related research thread.  There's already a thread for that that can get pretty grumpy.

I found this most funny.:D  Okay, you get a little twisted the longer you are on the MP!:P

http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/health/4-surprising-signs-you-ll-live-a-long-time-290919/

Title:  4 surprisizing signs that you'll live a long time.

The funny part:

YOUR MOM HAD YOU YOUNG:  If she was under age 25, you're twice as likely to live to age 100 as someone born to an older mom, according to University of Chicago scientists. The reason, they suspect, is that younger moms' best eggs go first to fertilization, which may mean healthier offspring.

Okay, maybe the female body really does this, but what if (I'm being sarcastic here) the older the mom is, the more CWD she passes down?

(I raised this very issue on one of TM's threads nearly two years ago--that the trend of mother's giving birth later would only worsen the epidemic of chronic illnes.  To which he replied something like, yes, and you can read my thoughts about that in my paper that's about to be published.)

"Man will occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of the time he will pick himself up and continue on."  Winston Churchill

Yes, it is truly amazing that "obesity" is the cause of so much illness when obesity is likely just another symptom.  I remember reading once that folk who work in the computer industry in high stress jobs, putting in lots of hours tend to put on weight.  Could it be lights?  Could it be eating lots of quick highly process foods?  Hmmm....  What else might it be....:?

HI ALL

This is Fred in WV.  It seems like almost ever day there is a new report shows us how more vit-D will cure or help something.  Not too long ago I saw one that said you could attract the opposite sex by taking more vit-D.

I think they have that backwards, since we that have the vit-D problem, we are all sick from too much vit-D and that would tend to drive away any one looking for me as being the opposite sex.  So who wants some one that is sick as a pardner.

Remember, we are all in this together and I am pulling for us.

Your friend in Sarcoidosis

Freddie

I'm not sure how Vitamin D could make you sexier but it looks as if some of the bugs might be able to do that.

Here's another.

Title:  HEALTHBEAT: Brain slows at 40, starts body decline

"Keeping active and treating high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes already are deemed important for good brain health. But physical and mental activity also may stimulate myelin repair, while unused neural pathways wouldn't send out a "help" signal, he says."

You see, gals and guys, it is all about exercise--physical and mental.  I guess for those of us who started this "decline" earlier we were just plain lazy of body and mind.  Oh, and the fact that I started law school at 35, having been sick since childhood, and managed to have passed an actually become an attorney (in a position that was probably considerably less stressful than probably the average attorney experiences)...that must have contributed to some sort of gain in my neuro health and slowed my decline into total disability.  Yeah, right (as it did not take long for the steep and serious decline to happen and for me to get lost in my own neighborhood and forget my own last name), and I have a bridge to sell.

And another....

Title:  Study: Women lead men in bacteria, hands down

Interestingly, "Women also may have more bacteria living under the surface of the skin where they are not accessible to washing, Knight added."

Hmm...thoughts anyone?

While the researchers stressed the importance of regular hand washing, they also noted that washing did not eliminate bacteria.
"Either the bacterial colonies rapidly re-establish after hand washing, or washing (as practiced by the students included in this study) does not remove the majority of bacteria taxa found on the skin surface," the researchers said in their report.

I thought that was interesting.

Much head scratching with the autism study Knochen.

...and yet another study...

The following study does not make it clear whether colas versus coffee or tea was studied and only caffeine was mentioned, making one wonder whether another chemical found in coffee and tea (as noted in "Dr. Marshall's perspective" on the main MP page) might contribute to the low weight of babies born to pregnant mothers who drank higher amounts of "caffeine."

Possibly immune suppression had something to do with it?

For several days I have been DEPRIVED of access to this forum....my computer was acting up and I kept getting an error message. Anyway, all I can say is I'm so glad to be back....I really missed these conversations, and this one has been really fun.
Thank you all for the entertainment and the interesting dialogue.
I think it's really interesting that Dr. Marshall has been invited to speak in China. That might change things.

Hello, MP Land!

Two lines caught my interest In a local newspaper article on MRSA:

(1)"To treat it (Methcillin-Resistant Staph.Aureus) we have to dust off antibiotics so old they've lost their patent: Clindamycin, tetracycline, Bactrim, and others."

(2) "Even more worrisome, many of these strains have features allowing them to easily SWAP GENES and become even more dangerous."

The article featured a joint conference of the American Society for Microbiology and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.  NO DOUBT the ARF could help them connect the dots!

Cowgirl again.  Isn't it comical how once you become aware of something new-to-you, you seem to find it under every tumbleweed?!

Just read ANOTHER article that correlates:  "A Morse Code For Human Cells" by Matt Goode of the Bio-Technology and Biological Services Research Council (BBSRC).  He is associated with the University of Liverpool.

Quote:  "Scientists now believe that cells in the body may use patterns of signals to switch genes on and off."  ;)

Wow!  And bacteria have learned to interfere with that process!:D

Yes, once you grasp Marshall's model, so much of what you read takes on new meaning.
