Hi Mark, I only use the immediate release SL. I find if I open the capsule and just drop the powder under my tongue it dissolves nicely.

Thank you for much for the information about Yetvart Paylan. It took a bit of hunting to find his phone and fax numbers, gotta love google, eh? I found his website and was grateful for my old high school French classes. Sent his numbers off to my husband and he's going to order three months of time release 40 mg. Then we'll have bridging benicar until Medisave works out our British order and we'll use both companies from now on.
I'll let you know how it goes with Medisave when I know more. The people Martin has been speaking with have been lovely, it just seems that our problem is unusual and so must be resolved by the manager who was away on holidays all last week.
We are hoping to work this out so we can continue to buy from them because it has been a real journey to get a system into place when ordering for five people. The bank keeps a close eye on large on-line drug orders in case we are doing something nefarious.
Martin has been very clear with them that it is in their best interests to make this work as Canadian sources of benicar are few and this would be a good business move for them. On the other hand, they've been so courteous with him.... it isn't like they have been orgres, it's just that I want my benicar. Gimme!
Thank you for all your support here, Folks. You all are fine people. MPers rock.

Update on how things worked out. The whole family will now be getting our benicar from Yetvart so we don't have to engage with the risk of customs bumping our order back to the factory outlet in England.
On the list of Canadian suppliers at the main MP site, none of those people will sell to Canadians, so I think that list needs to be updated. The websites won't open to a Canadian except for one, Canadageneric.com. They say on their benicar page that they won't sell to Canadians. When Martin phoned to talk with them they said that if you have a US physician's prescription, then it's no problem to fill an order.
Medisave.ca was the company we were dealing with. Very nice phone people and the orders arrived promptly. You have to use money orders as the Canadian banking system has set up anti-fraud blocks with credit cards being used at on-line pharmacies. What arrives is brand name British benicar. But what happened to us, where the order got sent back by customs... that's an on-going risk so take that into account if you choose to buy through them.
We just got notice that our order has been re-sent from England but by the time it arrives, it will have been over two months since we ordered it. Staff is courteous, but not direct in their communication that this happens ocassionally. Clearly, speaking of this is bad for business. Their lack of direct communication bumped us around for nearly two weeks as we tried to get an answer about our order. So, polite... yes. Helpful... no. Were they honest in honouring our purchase... yes.
Will we be dealing with them any more.... not as long as Yetvart compounds benicar. The russian roulette risk is too nerve wracking.
On the other hand, they did actually send us our order once the British side of the business registered that it had been returned. So you can know that you'll eventually get your package. If we had known they were going to be honourable about that, we would have re-ordered benicar on the first day of learning that customs has sent ours back. Their wiffle-waffling cost us time and if it hadn't been for Yetvart, all five of us would have been without benicar, cold turkey.
During this time period of trying to work with Medisave.ca, Yetvart has sent us two separate orders of benicar and we are well stocked up. His phone manners are warm, friendly and very reassuring. We were expecting a language barrier problem, but we could all understand him very clearly, so that was just fine. And because he is not an on-line pharmacy, we were able to use our credit card for the order without trouble.
He is the bee's knees. Is there any way that his business could be relisted at the main MP site?

This is absolutely number one on my list of things that I worry about.
I think once I get to the max phase III meds this could be a big tragedy if anything happened to Yetvart.
I don't see a problem letting Yetvart, Health Canada or even Sankyo/Scherer know how important this one remaining source is to us. Nobody wants to risk organ damage.
I don't understand why Canada is the one country where Benicar didn't apply for approval.
I don't understand why Canadian drug companys can sell Benicar or generic olmesartan to the entire planet except for the people in their own country.

I see a huge problem. Sankyo will do its best to shut Yetvart down. Sankyo does not approve of our "independent research" using its products. Sankyo wants total control. To date I have managed to deal with this in the US, but remember the Monty Python "How not to be seen" sketch, and keep your heads down up there in CA.

Not knowing any better - I need to ask....
Do we (Yetvarts clients) have a plan B or C? Or is it everyone for themselves.
I am not sure what other Canadians are doing other that getting messed around by Canadian Pharmaceuticals resellers and Canadian Customs.
I get the impression that Yetvart does have a substantial client list and the thought of so many being put at risk is frightening - although nothing should surprise us from the drug companies. They do promote prednisone and a multitude of worse chemicals....
I would like to have a contingency..

Medisave.ca is my family's contingency. They honored our order once the package arrived back in England, so now we know that they are that kind of company, thank heavens. And if dealing with them... always make sure we aren't ordering last minute. Just in case.
My understanding of why benicar isn't on the Canadian approved drug list is simply politics and lobbying. It's a great drug with a proven track record, which is why our doctors were so happy to prescribe it to us. But it's old and newer drugs are sexier to the drug companies who then look to government approval boards. It isn't so much Big Brother as.... Life in all it's wonderful complexities.
And we are a new treatment so it isn't like most doctors and government systems know what we are doing, eh? I think time is our friend. Oh, sure, that's optimistic but why not? Why not believe it's all gonna be okay? Especially as the endotoxins play with our neurology making us paranoid and cranky. Holding onto hope and optimism is a sane idea.

I am wondering about the Olmesartan capsules from Montreal, the only really convenient source of Olmesartan for Canadians at the moment. They add lactose, which Glebe Apothecary never did, unless you specify every time that you are allergic to lactose (until you can get a new prescription which clearly states "no lactose". But even then, sometimes they come in red capsules instead of clear geletin capsules, which is a needless source of additives.
But my major concern currently, which will probably turn out (I hope) to be baseless, is the formulation of the Olmesartan that they send.
The bottles state that they are 40mg Olmesartan capsules, but the breakdown stated on the bottle is 14.4 Olmesartan and 75.6 lactose (or 75.6 avicel for the non-lactose ones). Avicel is apparently "microcrystalline cellulose that has been partially hydrolysed with acid, and reduced to a fine powder". Personally, I would prefer the magnesium that Glebe used, as anything hydrolysed does not seem like a natural substance that human beings have evolved ways to properly process. Anyway, at the moment, the Montreal pharmacy is our most convenient possible option.
Is this formula equivalent to Benicar? We know that Glebe's formula was, but I just want to be sure we are getting the right stuff.
Thanks,
LR (For Dew)

I don't know the chemistry angle, sorry. I do know that after taking benicar for 16 months, first Glebe's, then brand name British benicar, and now the Montreal compound by Yetvart..... I feel very well on the Montreal benicar. It actually is my favourite of the three.
