Here is an interesting study that explores some of the benefits of what the authors refer to as "activated" vitamin D, in other words, 1,25D hormone, on cardiovascular health. They also make reference to 1,25D analogs. It raises some interesting questions when examined from the MP perspective.
Sadly, they go on to muddy an otherwise interesting study by jumping on the 'vitamin" D promotion bandwagon and occasionally blurring the important functional distinctions between the different forms of "vitamin" D. Perhaps this is a prerequisite for publication these days.
Still, an interesting study, since seen from the MP perspective it reinforces the MP viewpoint concerning the importance of "D"metabolism and probably VDR functionality in cardiovascular health. It would have been nice to see some discussion of why artificially increasing 1,25D leads to better outcomes (albeit with side effects) and why "vitamin" D metabolic pathways are compromised to begin with, including some indication of the role of infection on "D" metabolism and the importance of antimicrobial peptides. Of course, those of us on the MP are already thinking in these terms, but I am always concerned about the general public, many out there with Th1 illnesses, who are constantly being fed an oversimplified view of the role and health benefits of "vitamin" D.
Anyway, here is the science daily news release version...

Very interesting! The heart inflammation is my core physical problem and I know from my own physical experience, that there is a lot more to say in this subject, concerning the intake of vitamin D supplement and cardiac reactions.
I was on a large amount of strong fish oil and a calcium supplement with vitamin D, so I was probably taking about 2-3 times more vitamin D than most people. That was when my heart problems started. Of course there were a few other factors included at the moment, but I saw a crystal clear connection to the intake of vitamin D, since in periods, I did not take the calcium supplement regulary and always got a little better at those times. I could never see way, at that point.
And when the doctor let me test my D-metabolism I had a ratio of 4,8. With the 25-D as low as 7,8, he had to recommend me to take more Lýsi, which is cod-liver-oil here in Iceland. I refused and began my explanation of the MP...Long story.
It has taken me 1½ year to make my doctor agree on trying the MP for me... It has been a university degree of learning patience, for myself. I have failed many courses on the way.
Anyway, coming off the fish oil and vitamin D gave me severe withdrawal effects, and I gradually got better, but not well. With the help of heart doctors and a lot of heart medication I am slowly recovering, and today, going on my third week of Benicar Q4, I feel great, and my heart is almost like normal again!!!
Of course I was lacking the 1,25 D in the VDR around my heart muscle! It was all blocked by the 25-D, and could not work.
Anything I ate with the slightest amount of vitamin D, made my heart go crazy! The vitamin D supplementation was the final drop to make my heart give up, and I have been so lucky, that I slipped into the study site for the MP at that time!

Clearly all 1,25-D analogs are not equal; as a phase three trial of a vitamin 1,25-D analog Asentar was canceled because it was causing an increase in deaths in prostate cancer. "The ASCENT-2 Phase 3 trial was terminated by Novacea in November 2007 due to an unexplained imbalance of deaths between the treatment and control arms of the trial. At that time, Novacea also suspended enrollment in its Phase 2 clinical trial of Asentar for the treatment of advanced pancreatic cancer and in each of the other ongoing investigator-sponsored trials involving the use of Asentar." It will be interesting to see results of studies like these if they ever get around to trying Benicar to activate the VDR.
