Aunt Diana just spent 2 days of travel and expense to see a new doctor that the receptionist assured her "treats with the MP". Truth is, he preferred a protocol using high dosing of vitamin D.
If you are on the MP, you are too sick, and probably too broke to repeat this sad scenario. But how to avoid it?
Firstly, no appointment without first making an introductory interview of the doctor by phone, "to get to know a little about them." If the doctor doesn't do a phone interview, you already know they aren't the one for you, right?
Second, the interview should be scripted so that by the end you really have a feel for what type of treatment you are going to get and where the doctor's head is really at.
Only then can you be ready to choose to keep looking or make an appointment.
Here are some questions that might go into your interview script:
1. Where did you get your medical training?
2. What is your preferred approach in treating your chronically ill patients?
3. How did you first learn about the Marshall Protocol?
4. How long ago?
5. What was your first impression about the treatment?
6. How has that changed since starting to prescribe it?
7. When was the last time you reviewed the latest literature on the treatment?
I did not use this list during my phone interview with my doctor and now I am wondering what his answers would be.
I did make sure to show an interest in him and his thoughts so that it was a personable conversation. After talking over a few points, I stated very directly, "I am committed to using this protocol to get well. Would you be willing to support me in this and follow my progress?" When he said yes, then I made an initial appointment.
What are your thoughts? How could the above list be improved?

I think it's an excellent start, Joyful. You are correct....if the doc has no time to talk to you now, he'll have no time later.
I suspect if I had followed your suggestions I would have saved my husband and myself a lot of aggravation.

| I like to prepare the mindset of naturopaths and alternative doctors to the fact that I am not going to be taking any supplements, what so ever, and that I don't consider hair analysis tests useful, since they are aimed at supplementation, which I won't do. In particular, I tell them that I would not be willing to fill out a diet analysis form, as I consider it totally impossible to come any where close to reality with such a questionnaire. These are 'been there, done it' kinds of things, and I will never in the future let a doctor talk me into these. They are a waste of money. This is not a concern for a regular doctor, but alternative doctors have a particular bent toward these things, maybe from a strong reliance on these instead of truly knowing all phases of medicine, and I think that there may also be a monetary incentive. Such doctors usually sell the supplements. Cynthia

Good point Cynthia,
The alternate care doctors are good at listening and affirming, but they have put their hopes in supplements or therapies that may be helpful, but they really have no idea how they do what they do, or what the interactions are.
Better to get everything out front from the start.

I've got a less than fully desirable doctor on my hands now, too, and I felt I should pass along the warning. In the beginning, this dr was enthusiastic about the MP and although he/she was a newcomer, I didn't have many other options.
Well, over the next couple years the dr's outlook shifted. He/she already had an MP patient before me, but I was personally acquainted with this individual for a short time, and I knew his/her compliance to be extremely poor. (According to the dr, he/she was on "most of the protocol.") Instead of being honest with this patient about the resultant problems, the dr has decided that the MP is only appropriate for some patients and that iv antibiotics, etc are better for others.
The kicker is that the dr is now looking for a creative way to treat this patient, and has admitted outright that my help is expected. He/she has written me an order for blood tests to look for opportunistic co-infections, hoping that by comparing my tests with this other patient's he/she will find out what's "really" going on.
Of course, I will not do the draws for these tests.
I feel partly responsible for putting myself in this situation, because I understood the dynamic between this dr and the other patient early on. But I denied there was a problem, because when I went in with progress to report, he/she was impressed and I thought that both the MP and I had earned his/her respect.
I was also intimidated by the search. No dr that I contacted was willing to be questioned over the phone in any way--they all just had their receptionists say "come in for an appointment and we'll talk about it." Even the dr I am working on now, although he/she was wonderful during my exam and seemed accepting of the MP, ignored the emails I sent.
So good luck, folks. Don't get caught in this trap too.
