Hi all,
Not the most exciting subject ..if appropriate for this site...I have a question about regularity/constipation.  Since I'm off extra oils that I was taking I've been constipated...I believe they were my helpful in this area to me.  What has helped you????  My digestion is  very poor and salads take me hours to digest

Suecat, this is indeed the place to post such questions. Most of our members have GI tract involvement, over a lifetime that can lead to significant difficulties.

Hi Suecat,

Hoping you've read this - I'm constipated. What should I do?

Has good MP friendly tips.

An old remedy my grandparents always turn to (my grandparents are quite open about health issues!) is a tablespoon of olive oil, if you can stomach it.

Natalie-  Yes I've tried extra olive oil but I think I need to be consistent with it....last

time I added it to water and it was  more palatable. Thanks for the link... it reminded

me of the magnesium oxide which I've used before with some success.

My gut has been severely affected since I was a young person (I'm 45 now) and

I belch and carry on after meals(literally for hours) like I was a sideshow at the circus:D.

...On a connected note my husband has big issues in the bowel dept. which would

put him as a candidate for the TH1.  Now that i understand the the plemorphic

bacteria is the  cause and not just a backed up bowel...it's scary.  His Dad died of Colon Cancer.

Still I have lost crediablity with him because I'v done so much(in terms of health

protocols  $$$) and it hasn't helped me.. he kinda has closed ears.  I think once I start

to improve he will come around. In the meantime if anyone has any advice in the area

of the colon and bacteria that might  be a way grab his attention, let me know. (He

has zero interest in health topics).

It's a tough time right now stress-wise as unless he can procure a job locally Hewlett

Packard is transferring his deptartment to another city so it looks like a move is

inevitable.

Happy Trails and don't forget to appreciate the small blessings! (I need to remind

myself constantly of this as the trail is very rocky and steep right now)

My personal favorite for several years was psyllium fiber. It is simply fiber, and quite gentle. I got it at the local pharmacy and the inexpensive pharmacy brand was just as good as the name brand. It was really easy to adjust or "tune" to exactly the right amount. I am happy to say that since about mid phase-2 I haven't needed it any more.

Psyllum sounds good.  I think it is fairly inert.  It adds bulk and little else.  I also assume that it is MP compliant.  Am I correct John?

Caricol - Normally I would leave issues of MP compliant to the nurse moderators, but heck, I will go out on a limb for psyllium. It's compliant. As you say, it is pretty inert. I was already using it when I started MP and I continued to use it for 4 or 6 months and then I just didn't need it any more.

I still get some issues with reduced gut function if I elicit a vigorous herx. It even helps me to confirm that a suspected neuro herx was indeed a neuro-herx. But things keep moving, just in a reduced way. This was one of my early successes on the MP.

Let me suggest the sugarless version of whatever product you use.  I found that even the little bit of sugar in a dose of Metamucil would cause trouble.

I find that I again need a morning cup of coffee as a prompt to get me moving.  This seems to be dependent in the abx combo, and the current one is definitely working on the gut bugs.

I'm trying senkot tonight and crossing my fingers for a gentle evacuation.  Any

appreciatable amt would be exciting.  My GI tract has been on a rollercoaste ride for

considrable long now and I'm ready to switch to the merry-go-round for a needy

repreive.

p.s. my oldstandby i.e. physllium hulls have failed me of late, I'm so dry.

Anybody know any thing about zinc carozine to help build the mususol liining.

Mine has been hammered and ravaged now and needs some renewal...got to get some consistent calories in.

Ahhh ... to be able to eat without reprecussions...one day I'm praying this will be true

Suecat,
Have you tried a stool softener. I couldn't survive without one and take one or two gelcaps every day. For me, they work better than laxatives...although every now & then I need to add a laxative to the mix. The stool softener keeps things more comfortable.

Diana

is the stool softner the one with mineral oil and the sennanoids(SP)?  as in senekot S?

I thought I read mineral oil could throw off your absorption? Do you know?

I am having success with them but worry about long term use.  I lost 7 lbs that I

didn't have to lose with this last GI flare.
